Formula Student Electric
2012 - 2014
Formula Student is a student engineering competition. Every year student teams from around the world design, build, test, and race a small-scale formula style racing car.
I was responsible for designing the gearbox of the team’s first ever electric car in 2013. Straight cut gears made for great efficiency and great sound.
Getting custom produced parts that I designed, for the first time in my life was incredibly exciting.
Everyone was happy when the gearbox was finally assembled and attached to motor and frame.

The team secured an efficiency award in the Austrian event. The gearbox efficiency contributed to that success.
Our car did 0-60 mph in less than 3 seconds!

Student Research Project: Topology Optimization of a Wheel Disk
The objective was to create a lighter and stiffer wheel disk for the formula student car. I was responsible for topology optimization and finite element stress analysis.
